The worst kind of greenwash is the vague 'kind to the planet' type statement. If you want to present yourself as green, you must back up your claims. Your website is the ideal place for publishing data to back up slogans made elsewhere.

I just read a great white paper that listed the "sin of no truth" as the #1 way companies greenwash. Just list an exaggerated claim and offer no way for consumers to find out.
At least the UK is mandating companies to report GHG's now. http://www.sustainablelifemedia.com/content/story/climate/uk_requires_companies_to_report_climate_emissions
Let's just hope a standardized reporting procedure makes its way to the US. The conversation between US and EU firms should be rewarding at Sustainable Brands Int'l next month in Miami.
