You can still buy PC PSUs having a power factor in the region of 0.5!!!

In this day and age, PF of at least 0.8 should be easily achieveable.

While I applaud the efforts of these noteworthies to reduce the heat output on CPUs, one cant avoid the fact that the IT industry (of which my own business is also a part) is based largely on large scale consumption of oil, plastics, silicon, wood, rubber, metals etc. They need the global consumer to be just that - keep buying in ever increasing amounts regardless of whether they need to or not. OK, so this may reduce/slow down global warming by 0.00001% but wont change the fact that overall pollution and exploitation of the physical world will still go on.
