East Coast Mainline Ltd operates trains, stations and maintenance depots on the east coast line from London to Edinburgh. The company has appointed a large number of environmental champions across these functions to support the implementation of the corporate environmental plan.
To educate these champions, Terra Infirma Ltd developed a highly interactive workshop and delivered four sessions to the champions in Newcastle and York. Attendees included station staff, maintenance crew, train crew and drivers. They were given the basic principles of sustainability and applied them to their places of work. This identified at least one major issue relating to water use in depots along with a potential solution.
The sessions were highly successful and, as a result, Gareth Kane was asked to present the results and further steps to the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility committee.
