Peter Drucker famously said “Culture eats strategy for breakfast” and nowhere is this more true than in Sustainability. You can have all the strategies, targets or technology you like, but if people keep on making the same decisions as they’ve always made, nothing will change.
Unfortunately, behaviour change is not straightforward – Sustainability practitioners regularly rate employee engagement at the top of their most daunting challenges lists. We believe this is because most people go about it in the worst way possible; expecting their colleagues to turn into tree-huggers overnight.
Our Green Jujitsu approach takes a radically different approach. It identifies the overlap between Sustainability and the existing culture in the organisation. So, for example, we talk engineering to engineers, health to healthcare professionals and financial risks and rewards with accountants. We have developed a series of tools to identify synergies between Sustainability and the current culture which can be exploited during employee engagement.
