Is there a future for gas in a Net Zero economy? with James Earl, Future Energy Networks
Much of the current UK energy system is based on natural gas – power generation, space heating and to a lesser extent industrial processes. Given the current focus on renewable energy plus electrification (eg heat pumps), will gas disappear the way coal has, or will it find new green shoots in a Net Zero economy? My guest this week, James Earl of Future Energy Networks, argues that gases will continue to have a substantial role, whereas I remain sceptical. It was a great debate!
Note that this conversation was recorded just before the UK Government’s approval of the Rosebank Oilfield and its surprise announcement that it was seeking to scrap standing charges for domestic gas.
