The Vital Role of Soils in the Climate Battle with Prof Karen Johnson
This is the last podcast of 2024 and, to celebrate, me and my partner Karen Johnson invite you into our lovely home (or one sofa to be precise) to talk about… soil. Karen is an award-winning Professor of Environmental Engineer whose research revolves around soil health. With soil being the second biggest store of carbon after the ocean, land use changes being responsible for 33% of historic climate change and ‘nature-based solutions’ being the flavour of the month in regard to absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere (through offsetting or otherwise), you can’t talk about climate without talking about soil. So we do!
Erratum: since we published, Karen realised she mis-spoke re adding waste to soil, she meant to say she approves of adding (clean) mineral wastes to soil to enhance soil health.
