Turtle-ly awesome Green Jujitsu
Today’s ‘green day’ at our local primary school, so the younger two have gone dressed in green for an eco-themed day. Jimmy, middle child, has marked the day by writing a play with his best mate Ethan, based on the impact of littering on turtles.
Regular readers may recall that a highlight of our trip to South Africa last summer was Jimmy and his elder brother swimming with rescue turtles at the Cape Town Aquarium (right). The staff showed us the plastic litter they had removed from one turtle’s stomach and it has clearly stayed with Jimmy 9 months later – which when you are 9 years old is quite a long time.
Green Jujitsu is all about finding what people care about and latching Sustainability on to that. Jimmy cares about turtles, so he sees the plastic problem through that lens. Likewise, if you are engaging other people, it is essential that you focus on what they care about, rather than what you care about.
